New season strips
Arsenal’s new third strip (above) has been released and it’s almost the reverse of the new second trip, with blue pinstripes on a white shirt.
The new blue, second strip was worn for the first time in battle in the 2-0 Champions League qualifying match win against Celtic.
Arsenal’s original red colours are the result of the generosity of two former Nottingham Forest players, who donated the fledgling club a set of shirts and a fotball soon after Arsenal’s foundation (as Dial Square FC) in 1886.
The redcurrant shirt was worn with white shorts and blue socks (see right).

In 1933, manager Herbert Chapman added white sleeves and changed the shade to a brighter red, to make the players more distinctive.
Arsenal wore a similar redcurrant shirt in the final season at Highbury, in 2005-06.
Below is a selection of Arsenal shirts during the Highbury years, from 1913 to 2006.
